KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has urged the public to help stop illegal dumping at Lorong 5, Jalan Sungai Tapang following repeated clean-up operations at the site.
He said irresponsible individuals had continued dumping household waste, bulky items, and construction debris despite the area being cleared more than five times.
He said the repeated clean-up operations by the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and Trienekens had consumed manpower, machinery, and public funds that could have been used for other public amenities.
“MPP had also installed warning signboards to remind the public that illegal dumping was an offence, but the problem persisted.
“We must all play our part by disposing of rubbish responsibly at designated collection points because keeping our environment clean is a shared responsibility,” he said after visiting the site with Penghulu Lai Boon Khee to assess the situation and meet affected residents.
Yap also urged members of the public to photograph individuals or vehicles involved in illegal dumping and report the matter to him or the relevant authorities to facilitate enforcement action.
“Keeping Kota Sentosa clean requires the collective effort of everyone.
“A clean neighbourhood not only provides a healthier living environment but also reflects the civic responsibility and pride of the community,” he added.
Yap thanked residents for their continued efforts in addressing the issue and expressed hope that stronger public awareness and cooperation would help end the recurring problem.
