KUCHING: Vehicle owners have give the thumbs-up to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) announcement that it would offer free inspection for all vehicles.

New Sarawak Tribune recently headed down to one of the Puspakom branches in Jalan Pending, here to observe its operations after the announcement.

Both private and public vehicles were seen queing up to make an appointment for  inspection.

Some were advised to leave their vehicles at the Puspakom compound due to the overwhelming turnout at the centre.

Others were willing to wait to get their appointment for the inspection.

Some of the vehicle owners said they were happy that Puspakom decided on this initiative.

“I am very happy they decided to initiate this because I will be going back to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri with my loved ones here.

“So basically I will going visiting my loved ones a lot throughout this festive season, and I must make sure my vehicle is in the good condition before I began my journey,” said one of the vehicle owners.

On another note, some of the owners also felt that the free voluntary inspection should be also be done during other festive seasons.

“Gawai, Christmas, Chinese New Year or Hari Raya, this voluntary inspection is good and it should be done throughout other festive seasons especially for those who do not have time to inspect their vehicle.

“Plus the cost for the inspection is quite high, so for Puspakom to be doing this for free, it does make the process much easier than ever,” said the other vehicle owners.

Puspakom announced that free voluntary vehicle inspection would begin on Monday (April 10) until April 20 in a move to ensure safe driving during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The inspection will focus on safety aspects in regards to brakes, side slips, tires, suspensions, emission, lights, bottom and the top of the vehicle as well as tinted windscreen.

Its chief executive officer Mohamed Shukor Ismail stated that vehicle owners who wish to have their vehicle service checked for free can just walk in at any Puspakom nationwide (except for Shah Alam, Taman Bukit Maluri, Kuala Lumpur and Pasir Gudang, Johor branches) from 8 am to 5 pm.
