KUCHING: The Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak recorded various significant achievements throughout 2024, including substantial improvements in budget management and work performance.
Director Dr Cassidy Morris stated that the department’s budget utilisation reached 98 per cent, an increase compared to 90 per cent the previous year.
He then stated that the target to achieve a Zero Critical Projects policy has not been fully met yet, with two projects still categorised as critical by the end of the year.
“Although we have not fully achieved Zero Critical Projects, continuous efforts will be made to ensure that all critical projects are resolved promptly,” he said.
He said this in his speech during the PWD dinner ceremony in conjunction with its 2025 assembly at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Wednesday.
Cassidy then stated in other aspects the department set a new record in Key Performance Index (KPI) achievements using the Balanced Scorecard, recording a score of 9.29 out of 10.
“This performance is significantly higher compared to the 8.22 score in 2023, despite increasingly stringent KPI approval standards each year.
“This improvement demonstrates the commitment of the entire department team to ensure that project planning and implementation are carried out optimally,” he added.
Officiated by Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, the event also saw the launching of Schedule of Rate 2024 PWD Sarawak, and PWD Sarawak Guideline to the Design of Concrete Roads for PWS R1 Standard Guidelines.
Also present during the ceremony were Deputy Ministers, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo and Datuk Majang Renggi and permanent secretary of the Ministry Datuk Chiew Chee Yaw.
