MIRI: Quick action by the fire and rescue personnel prevented a double-storey shophouse at Jalan Permaisuri here from being destroyed in a fire on Wednesday night.
Miri Zone Fire chief, Law Poh Kiong said f13 personnel from Miri and Lopeng fire stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 8.22pm.
“Upon arrival, the firefighters used a bolt cutter to cut the padlock before entering the coffee shop, which is located on the ground floor of the building, to douse the flames,” he said in a statement here.
Law said the firefighters took about five minutes to bring the flames under control before ending the operation at 9.15pm.
He said no injuries and casualties were reported and the department was still investigating the cause of the fire.
