KUCHING: Quick action by the Kuching district police’s (IPD) Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) led to the arrest of a 22-year-old local man and the recovery of a stolen motorcycle during a crime prevention patrol at Jalan Ajibah Abol here on Saturday evening (Nov 1).

IPD Kuching said the incident occurred at 7.04 pm when URB personnel stopped a Yamaha Y125ZR motorcycle being ridden in a suspicious manner.

Further inspection revealed that the machine was fitted with a fake registration plate number, QCL 5634, and was reported stolen under the case reference Batu Kawa/Rpt/003596/25.

The suspect was arrested at the scene before being taken to the Central Police Station for further action.

A urine test conducted on him returned negative for drugs.

Police said the case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft.

They added that the arrest reflects the effectiveness of continuous URB patrols in combating vehicle theft and strengthening police omnipresence in Kuching’s crime hotspot areas.
