Rabies control sees 287 dogs vaccinated

KUCHING: A total of 213 dog owners participated in the Mass Vaccination, Licensing, Microchipping and Subsidised Neutering Programme yesterday (Oct 4).

The one-day programme, held at Dewan Persatuan Bola Keranjang Sarawak, Taman Seng Goon, was jointly organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS), the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak (DVSS), the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA), and the Sarawak Veterinary Association (SVA) as part of ongoing efforts to create a rabies-free city.

According to DVSS, a total of 287 dogs were vaccinated, consisting of 114 first doses and 173 booster doses. MBKS also issued 182 dog licences and 51 microchips, while six applications were received for subsidised neutering.

In a statement, MBKS expressed appreciation to all agencies, volunteers and members of the public for their support in making the initiative a success.
