LIMBANG: The Ranggau Valley Affordable Housing (RMM) Project is set to elevate the living standards of residents here through the provision of more comfortable, structured and high-value new homes.
Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the project reflects the Sarawak Government’s continuous commitment to expanding access to quality home ownership for the people.
He emphasised that the initiative ensures citizens enjoy a conducive residential environment while owning assets that guarantee future family well-being.
“The Ranggau Valley RMM Project clearly offers more spacious and comfortable living spaces compared to existing houses.
“This will allow the affected families to enjoy a more organised environment and own a more valuable asset for the future,” he said in his speech at the opening of the Ranggau Valley RMM Engagement Session on Thursday (June 4).
Elaborating further, Dr Abdul Rahman explained that the project adopts a ‘house-for-a-house’ concept, where eligible owners will receive a new home as a replacement without incurring any additional costs.
He disclosed that the current market value of a housing unit in Ranggau Valley RMM is estimated to be between RM353,000 and RM361,000 – significantly higher than the estimated value of their existing homes, which range from RM51,923 to RM78,100.
To ensure a smooth transition without burdening the involved residents, he said the state government is providing various forms of financial assistance and incentives.
These include buyer subsidies, utility connection costs of RM1,500 per house, relocation assistance of RM1,500, and full funding for agreement-related costs such as the Cost Exchange Agreement and the Deed of Receipt and Reassignment.
Additionally, the RM2,500 cost for transferring financing to Mutiara Mortgage will be fully borne by the government.
Also present were Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Chairman, Abdul Yakub Arbi; HDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Fathi Hambali; Mutiara Mortgage & Credit Sdn Bhd’s Chief Executive Officer, Awang Irwan Awang Shawal; and Limbang Deputy Resident, Marie Cotilla Louise.
