MIRI: An empty container lorry was severely damaged after its rear tyre section caught fire along Jalan Kampung Luak Bakam here this morning (May 16).
The fire, reported at 11.24 am, triggered a response from firefighters from the Miri Fire and Rescue department, who arrived at the scene about nine minutes later.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, the blaze involved the rear wheel section of the lorry and destroyed about 70 per cent of the affected area.
Firefighters used two 200-foot hose lines and a nozzle to bring the fire under control at 11.42 am before fully extinguishing it.
No victims were involved in the incident.
The operation ended at 12.30 pm after firefighters conducted checks to ensure there were no remaining sources of ignition.
Four firefighters and one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) from the Miri fire station were deployed to the scene. Police also assisted in the operation.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
