KUCHING: Upgrading and repair works for four community halls in the Batu Kawah constituency have been approved at an estimated cost of RM365,500.

It is part of continuing efforts to maintain facilities that serve as venues for community activities and celebrations
.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said in a statement today that the projects involve Balai Raya Desa Wira Lot Lorong 20, Batu Kawa (Phase 2), Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, Batu Kawa (Phase 2), Dewan Kampung Sinar Budi Lama, and Balai Raya Skim Penempatan Stapok, Batu Kawa (Phase 2).

The community halls have long served as important gathering places for local residents, fostering interaction, cooperation and unity, but some have deteriorated over the years due to prolonged use, with issues such as structural wear and corrosion affecting the buildings.

Local communities subsequently submitted applications for repair and upgrading works through the Batu Kawah Service Centre, which Dr Sim said he had strongly supported to ensure residents continue to enjoy safe, comfortable and well-maintained venues.

The statement said the works on Balai Raya Skim Penempatan Stapok will be carried out from June 15 to September 14, while the other three halls will be upgraded from June 15 to October 14.

The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) recently handed over the contracts for the repair and upgrading works to the appointed contractors.

Dr Sim had previously allocated funds for the upgrading of the Batu Kawa Chinese Association and Stapok Community Hall, enabling the public to benefit from better and more comprehensive facilities.

He reiterated in the statement that community facilities are essential assets that strengthen social cohesion and improve residents’ well-being, adding that he remains committed to continuously enhancing public infrastructure throughout the Batu Kawah constituency.
