SARATOK: A 28-year-old local man with multiple past offences has been arrested over a house break-in at Kampung Melango Lama here.
Saratok district police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the arrest was made on Saturday (Apr 26) following a report lodged by a 50-year-old housewife.
He said the complainant discovered that two mobile phones and about RM700 in cash were missing, with the total loss estimated at around RM1,700.
“Initial checks found no signs of forced entry, and the suspect is believed to have entered through an unlocked kitchen door.
“The suspect was later detained at a house in Kampung Hulu, Saratok,” he said in a statement.
Urine screening tests on the suspect returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, while checks also revealed he has 14 past records involving theft and drug-related offences.
The suspect admitted to acting alone and said the stolen cash had been spent on food, daily necessities and drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
