KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is still continuing the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) even though the MyBrain 15 Programme has been put on hold, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said FGRS which being offered to all public universities in Malaysia, was allocating RM275.35 million this year.

“The fund for 2018 was RM200 million. The research grant is able of produce more targeted master’s degree and PhD holders. Project supervisors including professors and lecturers who monitor their supervisee will be closely monitored through the development of research projects.

“This will help produce graduates in the study period as stipulated in the university’s offer letter,” he said when replying to a question from Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff (PAS-Rantau Panjang).

Siti Zailah had wanted to know whether the ministry had the intention to continue granting the MyBrain scholarship to produce more master’s degree and PhD holders.

Maszlee said the new offer for MyBrainSc Programme was still ongoing and the interview sessions would be conducted from April 8 to 30.

Replying to a supplementary question from Siti Zailah, he said under the MyMaster programme, the number of students graduating up to March 2019 was 24,585.

“For PhD level, there are 2,158 people and 30 people for MyPhD Industry,” he added. – Bernama
