MIRI: A total of 198 residents were forced to evacuate to a temporary relief centre (PPS) following a landslide at Kampung Lereng Bukit this morning (Jan 28).
It was understood that the landslide was triggered by continuous heavy downpour since last night. Reports confirmed that seven houses have been affected by the incident.
Acting district officer Geraldine Janely Doris Peter Kulai also confirmed that the PPS at Miri Civic Centre here was activated today to accommodate 40 affected families.
In addition to landslides, heavy rainfall has inundated several low-lying areas, rendering some roads impassable.
Jalan Miri-Pujut and Jalan Bintang are reportedly submerged and inaccessible due to rising floodwaters.
In Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu, residents have relocated their vehicles to higher ground as a precaution against the rising water levels.
Authorities are currently monitoring the situation and urged residents to remain vigilant and prioritise their safety.
