SIBURAN: Abandoned buildings here should be repurposed through community collaboration to better serve local residents.
Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the unused facilities have the potential to be transformed into community activity centres, preventing them from remaining neglected while creating value for the surrounding community.
“I propose that abandoned buildings such as the Siburan Hawker Centre and the multipurpose hall at Taman Duranda Emas be revitalised through community collaboration so they can be put to good use for the benefit of local residents,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Junior Basketball Training Camp held at the Siburan Basketball Court recently.
Dr Jerip, who is also Mambong assemblyman, said in addition to promoting the reuse of existing buildings, sports facilities in the area should continue to be improved, including replacing faulty lighting at the basketball court to ensure it remains safe and comfortable for users.
He added that funding had been allocated for the upgrading of the hall at SJK Chung Hua Siburan as well as the construction of the school’s mini stadium, adding that both projects have now been completed.
