SIBU: A local man was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle and a cement lorry today (Apr 21).

The lorry was believed to have run a red light.

The victim, the motorcyclist, has been identified as Benet Kawit, 39.

He was found trapped beneath the lorry following the collision at the Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce traffic light intersection.

Firefighters from the Sibu central station were dispatched to the scene, about 6km away, after receiving a distress call at 10.10 am.

Upon arrival, they worked alongside police to extricate the victim from under the heavy vehicle using a stretcher.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His body was then handed over to the police for further action.

The team also carried out flushing works before wrapping up the operation at 10.50 am.
