The Social Welfare Department’s Monthly Financial Assistance has supported 56,585 recipients across the state with RM101.4 million in allocation as of April 30.

Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the assistance is channelled directly to recipients to help ease their cost-of-living burden.

“The government recognises the challenges of the rising cost-of-living faced by vulnerable groups and has channelled various forms of assistance to strengthen support and ensure they receive the necessary aid.

“Among the assistance provided are Monthly Welfare Financial Assistance and Targeted Health Assistance,” she said in her ministerial winding up speech at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today (May 19).

On targeted health assistance, Fatimah said that as of April 30, the initiative has benefited patients through Kidney Patient Assistance involving 334 recipients with RM7.53 million in expenditure.

She added that 59 recipients received Medical Assistance worth RM850,000, while 47 recipients benefitted from Prosthetic or Support Equipment Assistance with a total expenditure of RM130,000.

“The Sarawak government continues to strengthen targeted health initiatives by enhancing Medical Assistance benefits through funding for Positron Emission Tomography (PET Scan) imaging, enabling patients to access advanced cancer diagnostic technology,” she added.

Meanwhile, for this year the Sarawak government has allocated RM13.7 million for disaster management and aid distribution throughout the state via the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS).

“From January to April 2026, JKMS has disbursed RM6.9 million in disaster assistance to 68,483 victims,” she said.
