SIMUNJAN: A RM13.9 million elevated water tank will be built in Kampung Hijrah here to resolve long-standing low water pressure issues.

Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris said the project reflected the Sarawak government’s commitment to providing reliable basic infrastructure for rural communities.

“With this project, residents will have a cleaner, more stable and continuous water supply, reducing complaints over disruptions,” he said during the project site handover on Tuesday (Sept 9).

Awla reminded the contractor to follow specifications and the project schedule, adding that earlier completion would allow residents to benefit sooner.

He also suggested another elevated tank be built in the Sungai Apin zone, where villagers still face low water pressure.

The Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Sarawak, under the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication, is tasked with implementing the project over 24 months.

Samarahan JBALB water engineer Adzahari Baini said works include a three-million-litre reinforced concrete tank, a 25-metre tower, 2.3km of pipelines, and installation of mechanical and electrical systems.

These include Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) technology, lightning protection, and an electromagnetic flow meter to ensure efficient operation and monitoring.
