KUCHING: About 31 underprivileged families, including single mothers, received RM15,000 worth of essential food supplies in a three-day community outreach initiative held from March 17-19.

The programme was organised by EXAL Malaysia in collaboration with Majlis Perbandaran Padawan (MPP), targeting B40 households across several areas here.

Among the locations involved were Kampung Pinggan Jaya, Kampung Tanjong Bako, Kampung Paya MEBI, Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, Kampung Sejijak, Kampung Stapok, Kampung Sri Arjuna and Kampung Haji Baki.

The initiative was led by EXAL Malaysia managing director Albert Ko and carried out with the support of MPP chairman Tan Kai, along with councillors Mohammad Fauzi Ali and Shamsuddin Hj Unai, as well as local community leaders to ensure targeted distribution.

“At EXAL, building communities goes beyond delivering homes. It means contributing meaningfully to the people who live in them,” said Ko, adding that the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to creating a positive and lasting impact.

The programme reflects a broader shift within Malaysia’s property sector, where developers are increasingly expected to contribute to social sustainability alongside physical development.

Industry guidelines, including Bursa Malaysia’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) framework, highlight community engagement and social impact as key indicators of long-term corporate value and stakeholder trust.
