A total of 2,491 applications amounting to RM211.76 million have been approved under the Mutiara Home Financing Scheme from 2016 until March this year, reflecting continued demand for affordable home financing among Sarawakians.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said out of the total approved applications, RM128.95 million has been disbursed to 1,803 house buyers.
“On home financing, Mutiara has approved 2,491 applications involving financial allocation of RM211.76 million from 2016 to March 2026,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech during the DUN sitting today (May 19).
Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government said the financing scheme offers annual interest rates of one per cent for the B40 group and three per cent for the M40 group.
He added that the Rumah Spektra Mutiara (RSM)-PBT Programme was introduced to support first-time homeownership among Sarawakians in the B40 and M40 income categories.
The programme enables eligible applicants to build homes on individually owned land titles, including those under the Skim Pembesaran Kampung (SPK) and Skim Penempatan Semula (SPS).
According to Dr Sim, the programme provides affordable housing solutions through the Mutiara Dream Home Financing Scheme, where eligible landowners can obtain financing from MUTIARA while construction works are carried out by registered contractors appointed by local authorities and monitored by the ministry.
“As an initial phase, MUTIARA will commence a pilot project in the Samarahan Division through the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), which is now at the tendering stage involving about eight applicants,” he said.
He said the pilot project will assess operational workflows, technical processes and financing mechanisms before the programme is expanded statewide.
The approved house type under the programme is a single-storey unit with a built-up area of 750 square feet, comprising three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
