MIRI: One of Sarawak’s most exciting dance competitions, Dance In Borneo 2.0, is set to return on Aug 30 at Miri Indoor Stadium, offering a total prize pool of RM30,000 to top-performing teams.

Organised by several local youth associations, the event is expected to attract talented dancers from across Malaysia and neighbouring countries, further cementing Miri’s status as a hub for performing arts.

Following its successful debut last year — where an Indonesian team claimed the championship — the 2025 edition promises to be even grander, featuring international judges from Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, South Korea, and Malaysia.

Dancers will compete in two categories:
K-Pop Dance Competition (limited to 20 teams) and Open Showcase (Freestyle Dance Performance) (limited to 20 teams).

Winners will share the RM30,000 prize fund, with awards for the champion, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up, 3rd runner-up, and six special excellence awards in each category.

Additionally, three special awards will be presented: Best Costume Award (K-Pop Dance Competition); Best Choreography Award (Open Showcase) and Most Popular Award (based on audience votes).

Organising chairperson Stephanie Ng said the event is more than just a competition; it is a platform for dancers to gain international exposure and push their creative boundaries.

“This year, we are taking Dance In Borneo to a new level in conjunction with Miri City’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

With world-class judges and outstanding talent, this competition will not only elevate the local dance scene but also position Miri as a prime destination for performing arts,” she said.

Dancers eager to compete for the coveted title and prize money are encouraged to register early:

Early bird registration (March 1–31): RM30 per participant

Standard registration (April 1–15): RM50 per participant

Registration closes on April 15
