LUNDU: A total of RM34,400 in aid was distributed to students, community leaders and asnaf recipients during the Gawai Contribution and Higher Education Institution (IPT) Assistance Presentation Ceremony 2026, held at Dewan Mahligai Gading here yesterday (May 16).

The assistance involved 44 Higher Education Institution (IPT) recipients, 24 Community Leaders and Heads of Ethnic Communities (KMKK) from Tanjong Datu celebrating Gawai Dayak, as well as 50 asnaf recipients preparing for the festive celebration.

Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan, said the annual programme reflects the spirit of unity and harmony shared among the multiracial community in the constituency.

He said Sarawak continues to stand out as a model of racial harmony, with communities of different backgrounds continuing to support and pray for one another’s wellbeing.

In a separate development, Azizul said the ongoing Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting remains an important platform to highlight development needs in Tanjong Datu.

Among the key issues raised were the construction of agricultural roads, phased upgrading of village roads including house-to-house access routes, and improvements to basic infrastructure facilities for residents.

He added that telecommunications issues affecting local communities also remain a priority agenda to ensure faster solutions can be implemented.
