MIRI: Comprehensive renovation works at the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri Dialysis Centre, a lifeline for kidney patients in the area for the past three decades, have now reached 60 per cent completion.
This marks a significant effort to improve the facility and the overall quality of dialysis services provided to the community.
Minister for Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, said the renovation is critical to ensure patients receive safer, more modern treatment that meets the standards of the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).
“This centre is one of the best dialysis centres in the country, and this renovation is essential to ensure the latest equipment is used in line with MOH standards,” he said during his visit to the project site today.
So far, the centre has received RM1.5 million in contributions, but the amount remains insufficient to cover the full cost of RM4.541 million.
Therefore, Lee is calling on corporate bodies, the local community and non-governmental organisations to continue offering support so that the centre can be fully operational by the middle of next year after renovation works and the installation of new machines are completed.
“Community, corporate and organisational support is greatly needed to cover the project cost. Every contribution provides direct benefits to patients who require quality dialysis treatment,” he said.
He added that the MRC Miri Dialysis Centre is an important asset for the people of Sarawak, especially patients who depend heavily on regular dialysis treatment.
