BETONG: The Sarawak government allocates RM40 million annually for land surveys across the state to accelerate the issuance of land titles and strengthen legal land ownership, particularly in rural communities.
Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the allocation supports the implementation of the Traditional Village Land Survey Programme under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code, which facilitates the transfer of ownership for traditional village land.
Under the programme, residential lots in traditional villages are surveyed, gazetted and their boundaries demarcated before individual land titles are issued to eligible owners in accordance with the Sarawak Land Code.
“The Sarawak government allocates RM40 million each year to carry out land surveying works across the state as part of efforts to expedite the issuance of land titles to the people,” he said during the presentation ceremony of Section 18 Sarawak Land Code land titles for Kampung Triso Darat here on Thursday (Jul 23).
Len Talif said Kampung Triso Darat, covering 3.56 hectares, had been gazetted under the programme, allowing 46 residents to receive their land titles during the ceremony.
He said legal ownership safeguards the rights of landowners while enhancing the value of their property, encouraging development and providing long term security for future generations.
He also encouraged recipients to make productive use of their land and continue supporting the government’s rural development initiatives.
Meanwhile, Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor said the presentation of the land titles marked the fulfilment of a long awaited aspiration for the residents and reflected the Sarawak Government’s commitment to ensuring secure land ownership.
She also thanked the Betong Land and Survey Department for completing the survey work that made the issuance of the land titles possible.
