BAU: A proposed RM45 million road construction and upgrading project in the Tasik Biru state constituency is expected to improve connectivity, strengthen agricultural activities and enhance road safety for rural communities in Bau.
Deputy Minister for Transport (Riverine and Marine) Datuk Henry Harry Jinep recently conducted a site visit to assess the proposed road alignment from Kampung Segong/Pimuung Singai to Kampung Jugan together with representatives from the Public Works Department (JKR), Bau District Council (MDB) and the Bau District Office.
The visit was aimed at assessing the proposed site and preparing a working paper for the project, which was first proposed by Henry three years ago.
According to Henry, the RM45 million project is federally funded and the application was submitted to the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development three years ago.
He said the project is now expected to proceed to the tender stage.
“This road is very important because it will connect Kampung Segong, Pokuok Pimuung Singai, Murluod and eventually Kampung Jugan, providing better accessibility for our rural communities.”
He added that the new road would serve as an alternative route and become the main access road for residents travelling to their farms, orchards and surrounding areas.
“It will also facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce, allowing farmers in Singai and Bau to move their products to market more efficiently while supporting the local economy.”
He noted that the project would also improve road safety and travelling comfort by reducing the risk of accidents, especially during the rainy season.
The project also includes measures to mitigate flooding along a stretch of road in Kampung Segong by raising the road level.
Henry expressed hope that the project would become a reality soon, making daily travel easier while improving connectivity and quality of life for residents of Kampung Segong, Pimuung Singai and Kampung Jugan.
