MUKAH: The proposed 4.32-kilometre Jalan Rassau/Bungan Besar project, estimated at RM68 million, is a crucial missing link in the Sibu-Dalat road network.

Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the proposed road project will shorten the time travel to one hour, which will ease residents from Mukah to travel to Sibu.

“The travel between Sibu and Dalat covers about 200 kilometres and takes nearly three hours.

“Once the new road network and missing link are completed, travel time will be shortened to approximately one hour,” she said.

She said this in her speech at the launching ceremony of ‘Sarawakku Sayang’ (SKS) programme in Mukah Division at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja this morning (Oct 3).

In addition, five road sections totaling RM591.3 million have been identified for upgrades to ensure safety.

This include Jalan Sungai Nai/Tanjung Gelang (RM293.5 million), Jalan Oya Bypass and Oya Dalat (RM204.75 million), Jalan Kuala Balingian (RM3 million), and overtaking lanes on Jalan Mukah/Matadeng and Jalan Mukah/Oya (RM45 million each).

Massive road network improvements are transforming connectivity across the Mukah Division, backed by an allocation of RM1.432 billion under the Sarawak Coastal Road Programme.

Fatimah also revealed that the project spans 131.95 kilometres of road upgrades from Balingian to Tanjung Manis, alongside the construction of the Batang Igan, Batang Paloh, and Muara Lassa bridges.

“This development has significantly enhanced connectivity between districts in Mukah Division, making travel smoother and stimulating local economic activity.
