DEBAK: Construction of a new RM8.8-million Debak Sub-District Office Complex has officially commenced, marking a major upgrade to the area’s administrative infrastructure and reinforcing the Sarawak Government’s commitment to improving public service delivery.
The project, which is scheduled for completion in August 2027, will provide a modern administrative complex complete with government quarters, replacing the existing office built in the 1970s that can no longer adequately support current operational needs.
Launching the project today, Deputy Minister for Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, said the new complex would offer a more conducive working environment while enhancing the efficiency of government services.
“The new building will provide more comprehensive, comfortable and conducive administrative facilities, while improving the efficiency of service delivery to the people,” he said.
The Saribas assemblyman added that the project reflected the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to providing quality administrative infrastructure capable of meeting present and future needs.
He noted that the proposal was first initiated in 2019 but was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic before receiving approval with the project ceiling revised from RM5 million to RM8.8 million to accommodate the expanded scope of works.
He added that emphasis would also be placed on construction quality to ensure the new facilities remain functional and sustainable in supporting the district’s administrative needs over the long term.
Meanwhile, Betong Member of Parliament, Datuk Dr Richard Rapu, said the new complex represented a significant milestone for Debak, as the current office building had become inadequate to accommodate the growing demands of government administration.
He also thanked Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for approving the project and expressed hope that construction would be completed within the scheduled 20-month period so that the people of Debak could benefit from improved government services.
