KUCHING: The authorities put the brakes on a luxury Mercedes-Benz C-300 and a school bus after they seized the vehicles during enforcement operations around the city yesterday (May 11).

Both vehicles were found to have expired road tax and did not have any valid insurance coverage.

The seizures were made during ‘Ops Khas Bas Sekolah’ and ‘Ops Kenderaan Mewah’, which saw the Sarawak Road Transport Department’s (RTD) Operations Unit conducting patrols and monitoring activities in several areas across Kuching.

Enforcement officers inspected a total of 90 vehicles of various types and found multiple offences.

Among them were driving without a valid licence, possessing expired driving licences, violations of Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) permit conditions, as well as several technical-related vehicle offences.

The department said appropriate actions were taken against all offenders in accordance with existing laws and regulations.

Sarawak RTD said enforcement operations would continue to be intensified to ensure road safety and improve compliance with road transport regulations among vehicle owners and drivers.
