DALAT: Despite facing logistical hurdles and limited infrastructure, teachers in rural schools continue to demonstrate unwavering commitment in ensuring students in remote areas receive quality education, said Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

She said rural teachers today do far more than educate, as they also serve as mentors, counselors and community drivers in sustaining education in the interior.

“Teachers in rural areas remain dedicated to serving despite facing logistical challenges.

“This includes a reliance on generator sets as well as limited infrastructure facilities,” she said when speaking at the Teachers’ Day and Raya-Gawai celebration at SJK Cina San San here on Friday.

Fatimah stressed that rural schools also require stable leadership to ensure educational management and delivery can be implemented effectively despite operational challenges, staffing shortages, and infrastructure constraints.

She revealed that one rural school had operated for five years without a permanent headmaster, forcing the institution to rely on an acting headmaster to manage daily operations throughout the period.

“This situation highlights the importance of leadership continuity and strong administration in rural educational institutions, particularly in ensuring that the school’s direction can be planned more effectively,” she added.

During the event, she also approved RM27,000 for the school to upgrade its infrastructure and support school activities.
