KUCHING: Claims that Sarawak and Sabah are confusing autonomy with independence are missing the real issue, which is broken trust over unfulfilled commitments, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Supreme Council member, Wejok Tomik.

Responding to remarks by UMNO veteran, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, he said the people of both states are clear about their constitutional position but are frustrated with the slow progress of the implementation of rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“We are not confused – we are tired,” he said in a statement today.

Wejok questioned why key rights tied to Sarawak and Sabah’s position in the federation continue to be negotiated more than six decades after Malaysia’s formation.

According to him in a press release, the MA63 should not remain an “ongoing process” without clear outcomes, stressing that constitutional rights must be implemented, not debated.

“The issue is not misunderstanding, but a system that has grown comfortable with Sarawak and Sabah continuing to wait,” he said.

He added that both states are not asking for new privileges, but for existing agreements to be honoured.

Wejok also noted that public patience is wearing thin, with repeated assurances no longer sufficient without tangible results.

He acknowledged that the MADANI government has shown greater openness, but stressed that progress must be measured by delivery, not intent.
