KUCHING: A total of 100 recipients from various Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) branches received festive aid under the SABERKAS Prihatin contribution ceremony, organised by the Women’s Affairs Bureau in conjunction with the Gawai Dayak celebration.
The programme, held at Borneo Cultures Museum here today, is part of a wider commitment by SABERKAS to uplift communities during major festive seasons in Sarawak.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations), Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, said the event is the second of its kind, following a similar initiative during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, with a Chinese New Year edition planned for next year.

“What we are doing here reflects our commitment, and we want to manifest that in the state of Sarawak, our government and SABERKAS are always concerned and consistently striving to ensure the well-being of the people – regardless of race, religion, or what celebration they are observing.
“We always try our best to support the people’s welfare through programmes like this,” she said in her speech.
Hasidah, who is also a SABERKAS vice-president, highlighted that its Women’s Bureau not only organises charity-based initiatives, but also knowledge-building efforts for women.
Plans are underway to conduct seminars and outreach events in both urban and rural areas.
“So far, we’ve held outreach programmes in places like Ngemah and Tarat, where we engaged directly with rural women.
“While we bring assistance, we also share information about the state government’s initiatives under the leadership of our Premier,” she added.
She expressed hopes that the Women’s Bureau will remain active and continue playing a key role in spreading awareness of Sarawak’s development policies and support mechanisms, especially among women and underserved communities.
“That’s our objective; apart from organising activities, we aim to connect and involve rural women in community well-being programmes,” she said.
The event today saw the distribution of food aid baskets to recipients chosen from branches such as Opar, Tasik Biru, Tanjong Datu, Pantai Damai, Demak Laut, Tupong, Samariang, Satok, Pending, Batu Kitang, Batu Kawa, Asajaya, Muara Ruang, Stakan, Serembu, Tarat, Tebedu, Kedup, Bukit Semuja and Sadong Jaya.
