KUCHING: SACOFA, Sarawak’s leading telecommunications infrastructure provider, has joined forces with global ICT leader, ZTE Corporation, to modernise its statewide network, setting the stage for the next phase of digital growth in the state.
“SACOFA’s partnership with ZTE will bring us closer to the state government’s vision of Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 and the Sarawak Digital Blueprint 2030.
“By modernising the network infrastructure, SACOFA is positioned to turn increased capacity and reliability into economic growth and enhanced operational readiness. Today marks a pivotal point in our digital transformation journey,” said Managing Director of SACOFA, Datuk Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib, in a statement today.
The network upgrade introduces scalable ultra-broadband capacity using full-band Optical Transport Network technologies capable of 1.6 Terabyte throughput.
Intelligent AI-driven network control will enhance reliability and spectrum efficiency, while a 6-in-1 EDN processor on the core transport network ensures high-speed forwarding with low latency and jitter-resilient performance for real-time applications.
“This partnership combines SACOFA’s strong local infrastructure expertise with ZTE’s global innovation in core and optical transport technologies.
“Together, we are delivering a future-proof digital backbone that enables 5G, cloud, and AI-driven services, supporting Sarawak’s 2030 vision for a dynamic and inclusive digital economy,” added Managing Director of ZTE Malaysia, Steven Ge, in the statement.

SACOFA is upgrading its core transport, routing, and optical layers with ZTE’s advanced solutions, providing a resilient foundation for long-term network availability and improved operational efficiency.
The improvements aim to boost bandwidth delivery, service-level performance, and support the state’s growing demand for digital services.
