KUCHING: The federal Budget 2026 should embody inclusivity, transparency, and balanced development to ensure that no group or region is left behind, says Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (Sadia) secretary-general Nicholas Mujah Ason.

He stressed that a fair and inclusive budget would be the best indicator of the federal government’s commitment to serving all levels of society equally.

“No level of society or group should be prioritised over another. Inclusiveness, balance, and transparency are key elements in shaping a budget that truly benefits everyone,” he told Sarawak Tribune.

Mujah also highlighted the importance of participatory approaches, noting that transparency and community involvement act as catalysts for positive impact.

He pointed to persistent regional and ethnic inequalities that should be addressed through policy initiatives, citing disparities in infrastructure between rural and urban areas, limited economic diversification, and low productivity levels in rural communities.

“Many rural households still depend heavily on agricultural commodities, yet receive little to minimal support. This must change.”

Mujah added that in advanced and progressive nations, government and non-governmental organisations, especially grassroots associations, play a crucial role in community development through the co-creation of projects and policy initiatives.

“When participatory processes and technical transfer are prioritised, communities are empowered. It is like giving a fisherman a fishing line.”

The upcoming federal Budget 2026 is set to be tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Dewan Rakyat this Friday (Oct 10).
