SERIAN: Community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) must serve as effective facilitators between the government and the people to ensure that government policies, programmes and services are delivered efficiently at the grassroots level.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the role of KMKK today goes beyond holding a position, as they carry the important responsibility of acting as a bridge between the government and the community.
“I urge all KMKK to continue enhancing their professionalism, integrity and knowledge of the procedures and regulations related to their statutory functions so they can meet the increasingly demanding expectations of the community,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Serian District KMKK Capacity Building Programme: Statutory Functions at the Serian Division Government Administrative Centre on Tuesday (July 14).
Sagah, who is also the Tarat assemblyman, stressed the importance of close collaboration between KMKK, the District Office and government departments to ensure development in the Serian District is implemented in a more organised, inclusive and beneficial manner for the community.
On technological advancements, he said KMKK should be prepared to leverage information and communication technology (ICT) and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the delivery of information, strengthen communication with residents, manage community data, and disseminate government announcements more quickly and effectively.
The one-day programme brought together 177 participants comprising KMKK under the administration of the Serian District Office and the Balai Ringin Sub-District Office.
Throughout the programme, participants attended six briefing sessions covering education and human capital development, the roles and responsibilities of KMKK, court supervision, shotgun licence management, statutory declarations, business name registration, as well as probate and letters of administration procedures.
