SAR ops launched for missing elderly man in Ulu Skrang

Gelau Rayang has been reported missing after leaving his home unannounced on Nov 26.

BETONG: An octogenarian has been reported missing after leaving his home at Rumah Sawing Merutih, Ulu Skrang, unannounced on Nov 26.

Identified as 82-year-old Gelau Rayang, he last seen around 9 am wearing a blue shirt and black pants with red stripes.

He is described as 152cm tall, with short white hair, a thin build, and is hearing-impaired. Gelau also has a history of high blood pressure and cholesterol.

Neighbours reported seeing him walking uphill, possibly towards a farm, about 2km from the longhouse.

Concerned for his well-being, his family lodged a missing person report on Nov 27 at 8.11 pm.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Betong station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call from Skrang police at 9.57 pm.

At the time of writing, a search and rescue (SAR) operation has been initiated, with efforts ongoing to look for Gelau.
