LUNDU: The Sarawak Government has approved an allocation of RM3.5 million to rebuild the Chung Hua Hall here.
It is part of efforts to preserve local cultural heritage and strengthen the role of community institutions in fostering unity among the State’s multiracial population.
Tanjong Datu Assemblyman, Azizul Annuar Adenan, said the reconstruction of the hall will feature a modern architectural design while retaining traditional heritage elements.
The new building will also house photographs, artefacts, and historical documents for future generations to appreciate.
“I hope the new building will preserve the heritage elements in its design.
“All the photographs, artefacts, and old items should be kept and displayed for the benefit of future generations,” he said during the closing ceremony of the Lundu District Mid-Autumn Festival 2025 held here recently.
Azizul also encouraged the Chung Hua Association to maintain the traditional identity of the new building so that it can serve as a lasting symbol of the Chinese community’s heritage here.
He further reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the development of sports and education among the Chinese community in Lundu and Sematan.
According to him, two new volleyball courts will be built in the Lundu area to nurture the community’s interest in the sport.
Additionally, Azizul announced that starting next year, the State Government will allocate RM500,000 in funding to assist three Chung Hua schools in Lundu, Selarat and Sematan.
“I see that the people in Lundu are very active in sports and education.
“This fund is expected to help schools continue their excellence in student development and community activities,” he said.
The Lundu District Mid-Autumn Festival 2025 concluded in a festive and harmonious atmosphere, reflecting the unity and cultural richness of the district’s diverse communities.
The event featured cultural performances, traditional dances, art exhibitions, and a lantern show that illuminated the night, creating a vibrant and joyful scene that symbolised the district’s spirit of unity.
