KUCHING: Sarawak is committed to shaping a future that balances technological advancement with environmental sustainability through the simultaneous implementation of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution and the green transition.

Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) chairman and deputy chairman of the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2025, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, said both agendas form the backbone of the state’s efforts to develop a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready economy.

“The AI revolution and green transition are closely connected. They serve as the foundation for building Sarawak’s next-generation economy and community that is both progressive and sustainable,” he said at the closing of IDECS 2025 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Thursday (Oct 24).

He said while AI holds immense potential, its use must be balanced with strong ethical standards and accountability, in line with the state government’s commitment to strengthening digital governance.

Morshidi also revealed that 22 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and two agreements were signed during the conference, reflecting the robustness of Sarawak’s digital ecosystem and international investors’ confidence in the state’s policies.

He added the launch of Sarawak Pass by the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) marked a significant step forward from Sarawak ID towards achieving a 100 per cent Digital Government under the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

At the same time, he stressed Sarawak’s technological progress must be inclusive, ensuring that its benefits reach all segments of society, including women, youth, and rural communities.
