BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Trade relations between Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam continue to flourish, with total trade value between the two regions reaching RM3.39 billion in 2024, reflecting investors’ continued confidence in Sarawak’s growing economic potential at both regional and international levels.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the figure demonstrates the increasingly dynamic trade relationship between Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam, compared to the overall external trade value of RM198.7 billion recorded by Sarawak in the same year.
He noted that the steady growth underscores strong and resilient economic cooperation, which further strengthens Sarawak’s position as a strategic investment destination.
“Sarawak is among the most popular investment destinations in Malaysia.
“We continue to promote sustainable and innovative investments that will bring great benefits to our people and the nation’s economy as a whole.”
Awang Tengah, who is also Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, said this when officiating at the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signing ceremony for the Rimbunan Kaseh Sundar Project in Lawas, held at the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office in Brunei Darussalam (STATOB) on Tuesday (Oct 28).

The MoA was signed between LCDA Agri Business Sdn Bhd and Sahamada Corporation Sdn Bhd, and witnessed by Awang Tengah together with Brunei’s Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Dato Seri Setia Dr Abdul Manaf Metussin.
Awang Tengah said Brunei’s strategic position as a gateway to wider markets complements Sarawak’s strengths in natural resources, skilled manpower, and political stability.
“Brunei has a robust business ecosystem and stable financial policies, while Sarawak is rich in resources and has a highly trained workforce. Together, we can strengthen regional economic growth.”
He also highlighted the potential for collaboration in green energy, in line with both sides’ shared commitment to sustainability and renewable energy development, which is increasingly gaining global attention.
Awang Tengah further urged that cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia, particularly Sarawak, be expanded into new high-value sectors with strong future growth potential.
