KUCHING : The Sarawak Civil Society Organisations Sustainable Development Goals (CSO-SDG) Alliance successfully hosted a highly engaging and productive forum and general meeting on June 8 and 9 at the Raia Hotel Convention Centre here.

According to a press release by the society, the events were held in collaboration with the Malaysian CSO-SDG Alliance.

They attracted over 72 participants, including representatives from various civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations and local communities who were all committed to advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Sarawak.

“The forum aimed to introduce the alliance to participants, detailing its mission to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Sarawak.

“It highlighted the alliance’s goals, vision and recommendations in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the state,” said the press release.

“The forum also sought to facilitate networking and collaboration among various stakeholders, emphasising the importance of community involvement and public feedback in achieving sustainable development.

“In the end, the participants understood the role of the alliance and how it could contribute to its mission.
“The forum also sought to improve governance and public participation, promote holistic and equitable development, enhance human rights and gender equality, protect the environment, and address the needs of marginalised communities.

“By bringing together civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, government agencies and local communities, it aimed to share knowledge, strategies and resources to create a sustainable, inclusive and equitable future for all residents of Sarawak,” the press release added.

The forum also featured a series of insightful panel discussions, interactive working groups and discussions and networking sessions.

Key topics included seven thematic areas: education and training, environment and sustainability, health, gender, governance, indigenous peoples and poverty and wellbeing.

The meeting concluded with the election of two co-chairs and new executive committee members and a renewed pledge to accelerate efforts towards achieving the SDGs by 2030.
