KABONG: The number of dengue fever cases has recorded a sharp decline of 63.54 per cent, with only 548 cases reported up to Epid Week (EW) 38 this year compared to 1,503 cases during the same period last year.
Kabong Assemblyman, Datuk Mohd Chee Kadir, urged the community to practise the ‘1 Hour Malaysia Clean Up’ concept every month and to spend 10 minutes daily inspecting their home surroundings.
“Besides maintaining environmental cleanliness, the people must also serve as the government’s eyes and ears by providing information related to dengue cases so that preventive action can be taken immediately,” he said when officiating at the ‘Mega Gotong-Royong (GORO) Perangi Aedes 2.0’ state-level programme held at SJK (C) Chung Hua Kabong’s hall here today.
In line with continuous efforts to combat aedes, Kabong was chosen as the venue for the programme, organised by the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) in collaboration with the Betong Divisional Health Department.
For the Betong Division, the number of cases also dropped by 66.12 per cent, with only 24 cases reported so far compared to 71 cases in 2024.
No deaths have been recorded in the division this year, while at the state level, only one fatality was reported, compared to six last year.
The GORO programme is held twice a year in selected areas, involving large-scale cleaning activities to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.
