KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Bhd is stepping up efforts to ensure a stable and uninterrupted electricity supply across the state during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Its operations and retail subsidiary, Syarikat SESCO Bhd (SESCO), is closely monitoring the power system and implementing contingency measures to address any potential disruption.

SESCO’s standby teams are on 24-hour alert, ready to respond swiftly to any power interruption.

Enhanced system monitoring has also been put in place to uphold reliability.

SESCO Chief Executive Officer Lau Kim Swee assured the public that comprehensive preparations have been made to maintain a consistent power supply throughout the festive period.

“Our dedicated teams are working tirelessly to keep the lights on for all Sarawakians celebrating Hari Raya.

“In the event of any disruption, standby teams are on hand for immediate deployment, with mobile generator sets available to support critical areas if needed,” Lau said.

While SESCO is committed to ensuring a smooth and safe festive season, the public is urged to practise safe electricity use to prevent disruptions and electrical hazards.

Residents are advised to take precautionary measures, including ensuring that all electrical wiring is in good condition to avoid power failures or damage.

Overloading sockets with multiple adaptors and extension cables should be avoided, as this can lead to overheating and fire risks.

Additionally, extension cords should be kept untangled and should not be placed under carpets or furniture to prevent overheating.

Any tree or vegetation in contact with overhead power lines should be reported to Sarawak Energy immediately.

Furthermore, Sarawak Energy should be notified promptly of any power outage or damaged cable to enable swift action to be taken.

Third-party contractors are also required to contact Sarawak Energy before carrying out any excavation work to prevent accidental damage to power infrastructure.

The public is encouraged to report any electrical issue or suspicious activity near electrical facilities to Sarawak Energy’s Customer Care Centre at 1300-88-3111, via email at customercare@sarawakenergy.com, through the SEB Cares mobile app/web portal, or by engaging with virtual agent CARINA.

Such measures will help prevent vandalism and theft-related outages while ensuring public safety.
