KUCHING: The Sarawak Energy Marathon 2026 is set to return on Aug 9 with stronger participation and an increased prize pool following its official rebranding.
The event, now in its 11th edition, has been rebranded from the Sarawak Energy Isthmus Run to reflect its growth into Sarawak Energy’s flagship running event and its expanding appeal among local and international participants.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said the total prize pool has been increased to RM201,000 from RM185,000 last year, with winners of the men’s and women’s Open Full Marathon categories each receiving RM15,000.
He added that participation continues to grow, with more than 5,700 runners already registered and the figure expected to reach 7,000 by the closing date on June 30.
“Registration fees remain unchanged and are still among the lowest for a full marathon, making it accessible while attracting both local and international participants.”
The marathon will be flagged off at 1am for the full marathon category, with the starting point at Menara Sarawak Energy.
The race, held at the Kuching Isthmus, features four categories: the 42km full marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km competitive run and 5km fun run, catering to runners of all levels.
The route will take participants through key landmarks, including the Darul Hana Bridge, the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly building, the Satria Pertiwi complex and the Kuching Waterfront.
As part of Sarawak Energy’s community commitment, proceeds from registration fees will be channelled to selected charitable organisations across the state, with last year’s event raising RM360,000 for 12 organisations.
Registration remains open until June 30.
