LIMBANG: Sarawak is strengthening its long-term development agenda by prioritising high-impact technology and infrastructure development as key pillars in its pursuit of becoming a developed high-income state by 2030.
Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development and Bukit Kota assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has enabled the state to pursue progressive and well-structured development by focusing on strategic sectors expected to drive future economic growth.
He said Sarawak is not only intensifying physical development efforts but is also exploring emerging technologies such as green technology, hydrogen, renewable energy and aerospace to ensure the state remains globally competitive.
“Sarawak is experiencing rapid and comprehensive development while simultaneously placing emphasis on future-oriented sectors such as green technology, hydrogen, renewable energy and aerospace, including plans to launch its own satellite by 2030,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the Pre-Gawai 2026 programme at Rh Sidik on Thursday (May 28) as reported by UKAS.
Abdul Rahman said Limbang is also benefiting from the state’s strategic development agenda through the implementation of various infrastructure projects, including the proposed extension of the Limbang Airport runway to accommodate larger aircraft.
He said the project is expected to improve connectivity, strengthen economic activities and create more development opportunities in northern Sarawak.
At the same time, he said the construction of farm roads remains one of the government’s priorities as the infrastructure is essential in improving access to agricultural areas and facilitating the transportation of produce by rural communities.
“The projects are being implemented under the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development through the Department of Agriculture as part of efforts to strengthen Sarawak’s agri-food sector.
“The farm roads will also enable farmers to market their produce more efficiently and access wider markets, including the Kubong Collection, Processing and Packaging Centre (CPPC),” he said.
Abdul Rahman assured residents that rural development projects would continue to be implemented in stages based on priority and available funding.
“If there is remaining allocation this year, projects will be implemented immediately, while the rest will continue in 2027 as part of the government’s ongoing commitment to developing rural areas,” he said.
At the same event, he approved an allocation of RM10,000 for the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Rh Sidik to install curtains in the longhouse ruai and support other community needs.
