KUCHING: Sarawak has strengthened its creative industry ecosystem with the listing of 3,330 practitioners in the Sarawak Creative Industry Directory 1.0, providing a comprehensive database to support planning, coordination and industry growth.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, said the directory compiles comprehensive information, including names and contact details of industry players across Sarawak.

“Five main sectors are included in this directory – Creative Arts (1,464), Arts, Culture and Heritage (1,061), Media Production (380), Design (386) and Information Technology (39),” he said at a press conference during the launch of the Sarawak Creative Industry Directory 1.0 at Sheraton Hotel today (Apr 10).

Abdul Karim noted that the directory does more than just list traditional strengths; it reflects the rapid growth of emerging digital and technical fields within the state’s creative sector.

“When we understand the ecosystem, we can identify strengths and gaps, plan more targeted programmes and create more opportunities for the community.

“The directory will also strengthen coordination among agencies and stakeholders, as well as facilitate better alignment of policies and funding,” he said.

Abdul Karim stressed that the industry must remain rooted in local heritage, culture and identity while adapting to new opportunities.

He added that the directory will be continuously enhanced, including the proposed use of QR codes for each profile and future digitalisation to improve accessibility and usability.
