PETALING JAYA: Sarawak played host to the Borneo Zone celebration of the 2025 International Women’s Day, as part of a nationwide effort to provide more women with a platform to share their experiences and ideas on issues affecting them.

According to a news report by Free Malaysia Today (FMT), Women, Family, and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said that this year’s celebrations were held across five zones in the country, a shift from the usual single event in Kuala Lumpur.

“The event will allow women to gain insights into prevailing issues, learn new skills, and exchange ideas with their peers.

“They can also share their views on subject matters that women in other places may still not be aware of,” she told FMT in an exclusive interview recently.

Apart from Kuching, the other zonal events took place in Kuala Terengganu (East Zone), Ipoh (North Zone), Johor Bahru (South Zone), and Seremban (Central Zone).

Nancy highlighted the need to empower women from under-represented and rural communities, emphasising that these celebrations serve as a crucial platform for their voices to be heard.

“We hope to see more women heard and supported. These events are an opportunity for them,” she was quoted as saying.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is set to launch the main International Women’s Day event at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow (March 8).
