Sarawak Metro responds speedily to incident involving KUTS project

KUCHING: A contractor involved in the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) has been identified as the cause of an incident where welding debris fell onto the road along Jalan Tun Jugah, prompting immediate safety action.

Sarawak Metro confirmed that the incident occurred near one of its construction sites and involved works carried out by its contractor.

“No injuries were reported,” it said in a statement issued on Tuesday (Apr 28).

Following the incident, Sarawak Metro said a stop-work order was immediately enforced at the site as a precautionary measure to safeguard both road users and construction workers.

“We are working closely with relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that the contractor strengthens safety measures at the construction site,” it said.

Sarawak Metro also thanked members of the public for providing information that assisted in identifying the issue.

Members of the public who encounter potentially hazardous situations near KUTS construction areas are urged to contact the project hotline at 1-300-88-5887 (office hours, Monday to Friday) or via Talk2Hidma, which operates 24 hours daily.
