KUANTAN: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan paid a courtesy call on Menteri Besar Pahang Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, as both sides explored avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Sarawak and Pahang.

The meeting which took place on Wednesday (Apr 29) saw both parties discuss a range of matters of mutual interest, particularly efforts to enhance economic and trade relations between the two states.

Among the key proposals was the need to improve logistics connectivity, including the possibility of introducing direct flights between Pahang and Sarawak to facilitate the movement of tourists, entrepreneurs and investors.

The discussion also touched on potential collaboration between ports in both states to boost trade activities, especially in the halal industry and cruise tourism.

In addition, both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the creative industry, particularly in the production and promotion of songket, citing its strong cultural significance and commercial potential.

Awang Tengah said Sarawak remains open to expanding strategic partnerships with other states for mutual benefit, particularly in trade, tourism, investment and the development of small and medium enterprises.

“I would like to express my appreciation to the Pahang government for its hospitality and continued commitment to strengthening long-standing ties between the two states,” he said.

Awang Tengah is leading the Sarawak government delegation to Kuantan in conjunction with the Showcase Usahawan Sarawak 2026 held at Kuantan City Mall, a programme aimed at promoting Sarawak products and entrepreneurs to the Malayan market.

Also present during the meeting were adviser to the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED) Datuk Seri Mohd Naroden Majais and MINTRED Permanent Secretary Datuk Lester Matthew.
