SINGAPORE: Sarawak is reinforcing its role in the global sustainability agenda through the official two-day working visit of the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, to Singapore starting today.

The main agenda of the Premier’s visit is to attend the Philanthropy Asia Summit 2026, where he will be among the leaders delivering a speech during the ‘The Public Agenda’ session at the summit, to be held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, tomorrow (Monday, May 18).

In his speech, Abang Johari is expected to share Sarawak’s own experience in driving economic development while reducing carbon intensity, as well as how policy alignment, cross-border clean energy cooperation, and long-term capital can be mobilised collectively to accelerate green prosperity.

He will also touch on Sarawak’s strategy in aligning policies, legislation and institutions under a comprehensive long-term vision – from the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) to the Sarawak Sustainability Blueprint, the Sarawak Energy Transition Policy, and the Sarawak Hydrogen Economy Roadmap.

Organised by the Philanthropy Asia Alliance, the summit, which runs from May 18 to 20, focuses on Asian innovations with the potential to be highlighted globally, as well as cross-sector collaboration.

It brings together leaders from the philanthropy, business and government sectors to explore how science, technology, innovative financing, and cross-sector partnerships can drive bold solutions in climate, healthcare and inclusive development.

Abang Johari is scheduled to meet with Singapore’s Minister for Manpower, Tan See Leng, to strengthen strategic cooperation between both sides.

In addition, he is also scheduled to hold high-level meetings with Temasek Trust and Equatic, which are expected to focus on discussions related to the energy sector and various other matters.
