KUCHING: Sarawak and Selangor are strengthening cooperation in creative industry development and entrepreneurship through a three-day working visit by a Selangor State Government delegation to Sarawak to study and learn from the state’s approach to developing its creative economy sector.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the state government was pleased to welcome Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Najwan Halimi and his delegation, whose visit aims to strengthen cooperation and exchange experiences in developing the creative industry and entrepreneurship sectors, particularly among youth.

He said the visit is also closely linked to the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA), which will be held in Selangor this August, while providing opportunities for both states to explore collaboration in various fields that can benefit economic development and youth talent cultivation.

“We are sharing experiences and identifying areas where we can collaborate to develop our respective states, especially in the creative industry and entrepreneurship sectors, particularly those involving youths and young people,” he told a press conference at Baitulmakmur II Building here today (June 16).

Abdul Karim added that the creative industry must continue to be strengthened to ensure its benefits can be enjoyed by more entrepreneurs and industry players, particularly among the younger generation.

According to him, strategic cooperation between Sarawak and Selangor through the sharing of knowledge, experience and expertise can create more opportunities for creative industry practitioners and young entrepreneurs, while contributing to more sustainable economic growth in the future.

Meanwhile, Najwan said Selangor chose Sarawak as the destination for the working visit because of the state’s success in planning and developing a sustainable and competitive creative industry ecosystem.

He said cooperation between the two states is not focused solely on short-term objectives, but rather on the exchange of knowledge, skills and expertise that can further strengthen the development of Malaysia’s creative industry.

“Sarawak is certainly a state that we should emulate in terms of planning, developing and sustaining the growth of the creative industry.

“This collaboration is not only focused on the short term, but also on the sharing of knowledge and skills between the two states,” he said.

He also described Sarawak’s offer to send a team to assist in the development of Selangor’s creative industry as an honour that reflects the commitment of both states to making the collaboration a success.

Najwan stressed that the close relationship between Sarawak and Selangor transcends political differences and continues to be strengthened through a shared goal of advancing the welfare of the people and the nation’s economy.
