KUCHING: Sarawak Skills recently commemorated the achievements of 51 working adults who completed the Industry-Driven Talent Acceleration Programme (ID-TAP).
Twenty-six of them completed the Expert Craftsman Programme in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, while 25 finished the Expert Craftsman Programme in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Technology.
Among organisations participating in the programmes were Asteel Sdn Bhd and Longi Malaysia Sdn Bhd. These programme highlighted the collaborative efforts between industries and skill development.
The diverse group of participants included professionals from organisations such as the Automotive and Welding Institute of Sarawak (AWISAR), Biomedix Solutions Sdn Bhd, One Medicare Sdn Bhd, Shorefield Sdn Bhd, and Tama Abu Engineering Sdn Bhd.
During the certificate presentation and appreciation ceremony, Sarawak Skills executive director Hallman Sabri said the fully funded Expert Craftsman programme was provided by the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK). Certificates awarded included international recognition from the Handwerkskammer (HWK) in Aachen, Germany, and modular certificates from the Department of Skills Development (JPK).
Thanking supportive companies for their invaluable contributions to human capital development, especially in enhancing the quality of the skilled workforce in Sarawak, Hallman, who is also the chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC), stressed Sarawak Skills’ commitment to introduce training programmes in alignment with industry trends.
He stressed the importance of character-building initiatives, such as critical thinking and English language competency, to prepare students for the dynamic world of work.
“We must create new products and seek new potential to add value to current products and services to keep up with the current trend and support the government’s human capital development aspirations.
“To facilitate Sarawak Skills’ ongoing effort to develop an agile workforce, we have also put in place various initiatives to ensure that our students and trainees are equipped with all-important 21st century attributes and skills,” Hallman said.
He highlighted that Sarawak Skills, as an Approved Training Provider for Recognition of Prior Achievement (APA), facilitates the formal recognition of professional experiences based on the National Occupational Skills Standards (NOSS).
Recognition of APA allows individuals to showcase skills outlined in NOSS based on prior experience and achievements.
He encouraged industrial workers to seek formal recognition of their professional experiences.
