KUCHING: The Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and the City Joggers Club (CJC) launched the Sarawak Sports Challenge Virtual Run 2021 on Thursday (Sept 2).
The event is organised in conjunction with the Sarawak Public Service Innovation Month and the National Sports Month.

Sarawak Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who launched the event online, said digital technology had allowed for such a run to be conducted wherever and whenever.
“It’s becoming the new norm nowadays so it is hoped that this event will help the public gain knowledge on digital technology while keeping fit.”
He said among the objectives of the run included encouraging people to take part in sports and fitness activities despite having to stay home due to the pandemic; and to create awareness on the importance of mental, physical, emotional and social wellbeing.
“The event is held between Sept 6 and Oct 5, and the distance will be recorded using global positioning system (GPS) as well as via application if participants opt to run on their treadmills.”
Meanwhile, SSC chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee said the participant quota was increased to 3,500 people due to good response.
Participation is free and can be done via the JomRun app until Sept 5.
Participants have been reminded to observe strictly Covid-19 prevention standard operating procedures.
