KOTA KINABALU, Sabah: Sarawak State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, paid a courtesy call on the Sabah State Secretary, Datuk Seri Panglima Sr Safar Untong, at his office in Menara Kinabalu here today.

During the meeting, Abu Bakar briefed the Sabah State Government on the operations of AirBorneo, which has taken over the Rural Air Services (RAS) operations from MASwings.

Abu Bakar, who is also the Chairman of AirBorneo, said the move is crucial to ensure the continuity and enhancement of air services in Sabah and Sarawak, particularly in rural and remote areas, while strengthening connectivity between the two states.

“Both parties also exchanged views on shared interests in reinforcing Borneo regional integration, as well as strategic measures to ensure the continued empowerment of socio-economic development for the people of both states,” he said.

He also expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and the Sabah State Government’s willingness to receive the courtesy visit.

For the record, AirBorneo launched its inaugural flights to Mukah and Tanjung Manis from Kuching International Airport on January 2, 2026.

This inaugural launch followed AirBorneo’s successful acquisition of MASwings’ operations, which took effect on January 1, 2026, pursuant to the Share Sale Agreement signed on February 12, 2025.

Also present during the visit were the Sarawak State Attorney-General, Datuk Sri Zaferi Ali; the State Financial Secretary, Datuk Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar; the Deputy State Financial Secretary, Datuk Hasmawati Sapawi; and AirBorneo Chief Executive Officer, Tuan Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin.
